CWT are highly versatile. They are available in various sizes (sequential CWT are not available in 0.5mm format) for use in fish as small as newly hatched salmonids and, potentially, for creatures of very large size.
VI Alpha tags have definite minimum size and species limitations. (see VI Alpha section of this website)
VIE tags are highly versatile in this regard. Frederick (1997) [Abstract] successfully tagged reef fish as small as 8 mm. Additionally, we've developed a short article that overviews key points to consider when tagging very small fish with VIE. (see Application Note APE03 (PDF 62K) ).
